The study of “Misericórdias” is essential to the history of Portuguese Early Modern Art. Basedon research undertaken in the archives of the Misericórdia of Esposende, a small town atthe mouth of the river Cávado, established in 1572 and focused on maritime activity, wehave registered the key moments of artistic production in the church of the brotherhood,between the late sixteenth and late eighteenth century.
This paper aims to report the restoration treatment of a painted sculpture in Ançã’s limestone(Cantanhede region), from the Santa Clara-a-Velha museum’s collection (Coimbra),multi fractured and multi-intervened needing an urgent restoration. The main goal of thisintervention was to give the tomb structural strength to make possible its return to thePermanent Exhibition. Conceived as a religious funerary model, an important outlined criteriahas been its exhibition as a tomb. O estudo da técnica da pintura a óleo sobre suportes celulósicos é uma área ainda pouco investigada, que tem vindo a ganhar relevância. Sendo mais comum a prática do óleo sobre suportes rígidos e semi-rígidos, o interesse surge em torno da utilização do papel como suporte de pintura a óleo, dos materiais utilizados e das especificidades que estes devem possuir. O presente artigo, que advém da dissertação de mestrado da autora realizada no âmbito do mestrado em Conservação de Bens Culturais, incide sobre esta temática. Tem como ponto principal os exemplares estudados: três pinturas a óleo sobre suportes celulósicos,da autoria de Marques de Oliveira, sob os pontos de vista da composição, das técnicas deexecução, dos materiais e do estado de conservação.
Visible and or open storages become a recurrent phenomenon in the international panoramamuseum, as a result of deep changes occurred in contemporary postmodern society, of whichwe highlight the primacy of communication and the collections access. In this article wethink over this process and on the concepts behind it in order to understand the experiencesundertaken by museums in general in this field, and most of all on the storage organization,management, preservation and divulgation collections policies, towards to elaborate a frameof references of storage conditions best practices. The research seeks to meet the demand for knowledge about sculptures in plaster, consideringthat it is a category rarely addressed in studies of artistic and historical heritage.The objective was to upgrade the body of knowledge, studying these objects under theperspective of the art historian and subjecting them to scientific tests with the goal ofconservation-restoration. A nossa percepção visual é fortemente influenciada pela estrutura anatómica do olho e pelas condições de iluminação. Visualizamos os atributos de cor existentes na pintura através das células foto receptoras da retina – cones – que servem a nossa visão em níveis elevados de iluminação. A iluminação, por outro lado, afecta a nossa discriminação de cor, bem como a percepção das três dimensões da cor.Durante o processo de reintegração cromática o nosso sistema visual pode ser afectadopor vários fenómenos de distorção das cores que muitos conservadores de pintura não estão totalmente conscientes. The study of the sustainability of solutions to ensure appropriate environmental conditions in museum institutions begins when the cost of fuel makes it imperative to save energy and imposes the need to reflect on ways to reduce energy consumption, necessary to meet the standards set, with increasing rigidity, for the temperature and relative humidity,whose kindness, in fact, was questioned long ago. With this paper we are presenting a new promising approach to digitalization of radiographic image in film, using common photographic cameras as device to digitalize with different levels of exposure (allowing, in some cases, to read information from the darker/denser areas of the image) and combining those images with the new technique of High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging, increasing this way the exposure latitude of the final image. This new approach is possible today because the most recent generations of image treatment software present this new feature. Examples of software presenting this tool are the market leader Adobe Photoshop (presenting this HDR capacity since CS2 version) or the most HDR specialized Photomatix, among others. No século XVI e no início do XVII, poucas são as pinturas que se encontram assinadas ou que estejam atribuídas de modo seguro, dificuldades que se a volumam quando se trata de uma obra realizada por mais que um artista. Apesar da investigação já desenvolvida, a realidade é que muita dessa pintura está por estudar e identificar. As pinturas sobre madeira que se encontram expostas na sacristia da Sé do Porto são exemplo disso mesmo, uma vez que ainda hoje subsistem várias incógnitas quanto à sua origem e autoria. Neste artigo, com base em diversas fontes documentais (históricas e relatórios de intervenção do IPCR), traça-se o percurso histórico dos painéis dentro da Catedral, e faz-se um estudo comparativo entre materialidade e a técnica dos pintores Francisco Correia e Simão Rodrigues, com vista à atribuição da autoria.
The Gestalt psychology was use by Cesare Brandi in the conservation and restoration, especially in the interpretation and treatment of the losses. This article let know the form psychology used by Brandi and explore the influence and the importance of the Perceptual Organization Laws in the interpretation of the losses, the selection of the chromatic techniques and therefore in the recognition of the same ones. As study case, was chosen the work “Resurrection of Lazarus”, a 16th painting of the Charola of the Convento de Cristo, in Tomar.
