Objective: To determine the prevalence of hearing loss in Navy personnel that was reveled between June of 2005 and June of 2006 at the Navy Disability Evaluation Council, categorizing these cases in accordance with: the causes of hearing loss, the year of enlistment in the Navy, the presence on expeditions in the Portuguese African war, the rate, the category, the rank and the degree of disability due to the hearing loss.Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed. The cervical cysts hove a behaviour and prognostic that vary according to its source, time of evolution, nature and dimensions.One should consider metastasis of pharyngeal, laryngeal, thyroid, parathyroid, lungs and salivary glands neoplasms.Any swelling in retro and parapharyngeal spaces can cause digestive and airway compromise.Thyroid cysts spontaneous haematomas cases ore rare.The authors describe o case report of a young woman with a sudden set of painless cervical tumefaction causing dyspnea, related to a thyroid node which is exclusively cystic, with sero-hemathic filling, as well as the applied treatment.ln this work it is presented o retrospective of cervical masses cases that occured in lhe Navy Hospital from 2001 to 2005.There were no records of thyroid haematomas within this period.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of exostoses and osteomata in the Portuguese Navy divers and its relation with the years of diving, age and immersion time.Patients and Methods: One hundred forty nine patients were included in the study. The study group (Group A) was formed by 87divers and the contrai group (Group 8) was formed by 62 individuais that have never dived. A clinical history and otoendoscopy was taken to ali individuais. The exostoses were classified in three grades according to the percentage of obstruction within the externa/ auditory canais.Results: Both groups were uniform in age and sex. There were 86% of divers with exostoses in one or both ears in group A and 43.6% had 1 or more osteomata.
